In this series of posts, I want to present the advantages of using 3D in production. For someone who hasn't worked with 3D in the past, this introduction should give you an idea of what you can achieve with 3D technology.
In this first chapter, I want to show how easy it can be to change different weather conditions and environmental looks. Getting images like these would be really difficult in a real-world scenario—getting the product in the right place, finding good timing and weather conditions, having multiple lenses, and I'm not even talking about changing wall and ground materials. That last one is practically impossible or would be extremely expensive to build the scene from scratch with physical objects.
Making this in 3D? Not a problem. Take the product, place it in whatever environment you want, then create weather conditions that fit the purpose of the image where you want to use them, and create textures with just a few clicks.
This specific project allowed us to have 9 camera angles, 5 weather conditions, 4 different wall materials, and 3 different ground materials, making it a total of 540 variations. Of course, if that wasn't enough, we could make more, but this wide range allowed my customer to choose the perfect variations for their purposes.
You might say, AI can do this, can't it? At the moment we're not there yet. Getting consistent images of specific products is hard to achieve, so before AI takes over this field—if it ever will—I'll be doing this work and enjoying every bit of it.
In the past, something like this would have required a lot of resources, but thankfully in 2025, with the technologies we have, it's an affordable solution and doesn't require a large studio with a significant budget.
